Collecting group money and tracking who's paid

Class funds, birthday gifts, trip deposits, or pooling money for shared purchases — one person ends up collecting for the whole group. The hard part is remembering who's paid and who hasn't. A group-collection tool helps you manage it transparently and remind exactly the right people.

Chitipay app Collect screen: total to collect, number of transactions, and the list of who needs to pay and who's owed

One person collects for the group

Unlike splitting (where everyone fronts an expense and it's reconciled afterward), collecting means one person gathers the same or different amounts from multiple people. The collector needs a clear record of who owes how much, so nothing gets mixed up and they're not asking the group the same question over and over.

A list of who's paid and who hasn't

The most important part of managing a collection is payment status. Every time someone transfers, mark them as paid; the list instantly shows who still hasn't paid and how much you've collected against the target — no more scrolling through transfer history to reconcile.

Share the result with the group

When you need to share progress, send the group a clear summary: who's paid, who hasn't, and how much is still owed. This is far more transparent than messaging each person individually, and it lets anyone who hasn't paid see themselves on the list.

A payment QR code for faster collecting

Attach the collector's bank QR code right in the result so the group can scan and transfer in seconds, with no need to retype account numbers. The collector gets paid faster, and everyone else is spared the hassle — exactly the lightweight spirit of group collecting.

Frequently asked questions

How is collecting different from splitting directly?
Direct splitting: whoever owes transfers straight to whoever's owed. Collecting: everyone transfers through one representative, who then pays out whoever's owed — so each person transfers exactly once.
Does the collector's own ledger get thrown off?
No. The collector is just an intermediary — everyone's original balance stays on record in the app for reference.
How do I know who's transferred and who hasn't?
Every transaction in the collection plan has its own completion status — one screen tells you who's still missing.
